Crazy Stick/Flirt Pole

Does your dog have a Crazy Stick? Maybe you know it by an alias – Flirt Pole, Giant Cat Toy, Toy on a Rope – but it’s all the same thing. A stick, with rope attached to one end, and a toy at the other end of the rope.

Why do we love this toy? Your dog learns impulse control and tires out quickly. 10 minutes of structured play will tire your dog out faster than a walk does. Or a run. Your dog will learn that – even when super exciting and totally awesome things happen – your dog must be patient and wait.

We build structure into every play session:
• We start by having the dog Sit or Down.
• We have the dog Stay, for different lengths of time. Sometimes just 5 seconds, other times it will be longer. During this time, we may walk around, wiggle the toy, or tease the dog slightly with the toy.
• We release the dog to chase the toy.
• After they have their fun, we have the dog Out or Drop the toy.

This is a single dog activity.

Here are instructions to make your very own Crazy Stick.
